BOISE, ID\u2014The National Association of Realtors\u00ae<\/sup>, in partnership with the National Forest Foundation, will plant 215,000 trees in national forests throughout Idaho this year. This action will capture 107,500 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions over their lifetime \u2013 the equivalent to the CO2 emissions released from:<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Nearly 21,000 homes\u2019 electricity use for one year (20,917),<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0More than 23,000 gasoline-powered passenger vehicles driven for one year (23,163),<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Nearly 12.1 million gallons of gasoline consumed (12,096,320),<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0More than 13 billion smartphones charged (13,076,584,477) or<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0More than 266 million miles driven by an average gasoline-powered passenger vehicle (266,837,098).<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are proud of our work at the intersection of the built and natural environments,\u201d said Tracy Kasper 2023 National Association of Realtors\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0President-elect and a Realtor\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0from Nampa, Idaho. \u201cSustainability is directly relevant to what agents and Realtors\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0do, and we aim to lead by example \u2013 determining how to enjoy resources today and ensure that future generations have the same advantages.\u201d<\/p>\n

NAR will make this announcement during its sustainability symposium \u2013 \u201cNAR Community and Stewardship: Boise, Idaho<\/strong><\/a>\u201d \u2013 in Boise on Friday afternoon. The planted trees will support reforestation efforts in the Boise and Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests to bolster recovery from the 2016 Pioneer Fire and the 2021 Johnson Creek Fire. This planting is part of NAR\u2019s partnership with NFF on a 1.575 million\u00a0tree-planting initiative<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe National Forest Foundation is proud to partner with the NAR on their sustainability initiatives.\u201d said Mary Mitsos, President & CEO, National Forest Foundation. \u201cTree planting after wildfires is more important than ever. These 215,000 trees are a crucial\u00a0step to not only restoring our public lands, but to providing cleaner air and beautiful outdoor\u00a0spaces for future generations to\u00a0enjoy. With NAR\u2019s support, and our joint commitment to sustainability and growth, we look forward to a brighter, greener future.\u201d<\/p>\n

The symposium will include two panel discussions. \u201cSustainability and the State of Idaho\u201d will explore sustainability issues that impact Idaho and how they are being addressed. \u201cResidential Resilience and Community Stewardship\u201d will explore how local initiatives, policies and programs directly impact the development, purchase and sale of property. Attendees will hear from business and community leaders and real estate professionals regarding initiatives being developed in Idaho that will promote\u00a0residential resilience and environmental stewardship.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe outdoor opportunities in Idaho are such a large draw to current residents and those moving to our area, including our miles of Boise River Greenbelt, our foothills and other natural resources,\u201d said Boise Regional Realtors\u00a0\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a02023 President Debbi Myers. \u201cInitiatives like NAR\u2019s will provide additional support for those spaces so our residents can continue to enjoy the great outdoors for generations to come.\u201d<\/p>\n
