Staging the living room was found to be most important for buyers (39%), followed by the primary bedroom (36%) and the kitchen (30%).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen getting ready to list a home for sale, it\u2019s vital to complete the necessary prep work to make a favorable and lasting first impression,\u201d said NAR President\u00a0<a name=\"x__Hlk119522024\" data-safelink=\"true\"><\/a>Kenny Parcell, a\u00a0<a name=\"x__Hlk130583160\" data-safelink=\"true\"><\/a>Realtor<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0from Spanish Fork, Utah, and broker-owner of Equity Real Estate Utah. \u201cRealtors<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0provide valuable guidance on how best to make your home an inviting space that connects with prospective buyers and stands out from the competition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Almost a quarter of sellers\u2019 agents (23%) said they staged all sellers\u2019 homes prior to listing them for sale, while 10% noted they only staged homes that were difficult to sell.<\/p>\n<p>Real estate television shows affected buyers\u2019 perspectives on homes, according to a majority of\u00a0<a name=\"x__Hlk130585818\" data-safelink=\"true\"><\/a>Realtors<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>. Approximately three out of four respondents (73%) said that TV shows which display the buying process impacted their business by setting unrealistic or increased expectations, with more than half of those surveyed (55%) reporting that buyers said homes should look like they were staged on TV shows.<\/p>\n<p>In the last five years, about half of surveyed Realtors<sup>\u00ae\u00a0<\/sup>(51%) said they\u2019ve seen an increase in the share of buyers who planned to remodel a home. A quarter of respondents noted that buyers who plan to remodel will do so within the first three months of owning a home.<\/p>\n<p>Almost all surveyed (95%) said that their buyer clients brought family members who weren\u2019t purchasing the home with them while viewing homes.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Survey Methodology<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In January 2023, NAR invited a random sample of 43,176 active Realtors<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0to fill out an online survey. A total of 1,921 usable responses were received for an overall response rate of 4.4 percent.
